SteemSTEM was formed for promoting and rewarding STEM (Science, Technology Engineering and Mathematics) content on Steem [1]. SteemSTEM is currently operated within the Steem community, and takes care of curating STEM posts, sharing monetary rewards with STEM authors and hosting writing competitions on STEM topics.

Community Contact

The easiest way to contact the SteemSTEM team is to visit our channel on rocket.chat. It is also the best place for lively discussing about STEM topics and we enve have a few experts about specific fields. Please pass by.

Curation

The @steemstem account is actively curating posts tagged within the #science category. We are proud to upvote accurate, comprehensive and referenced posts. Once in a while, we select a post for being resteemed and offer to his or her author a reward of 10 SP.

And to prevent from discussions that have been recently held on steemit: those who work behind the scenes are never (yes: never) resteemed and do not get any SP reward from @steemstem.

SteemSTEM Writing Competitions

One of the ways SteemSTEM promotes STEM content on the Steemit platform consists of hosting writing competitions on the STEM topics. The first event was a real success, with 13 participants who shared a reward pool of about 240 STEEM. The entry to this competition was free and only required you to tag a post with a specific tag. The participants could then write on any topic of their choice, and the comprehensibility, accuracy, format and references of the post were graded by a jury made of steemSTEM members. The results are available here. Do not hesitate to read the posts of all participants.

Future competitions are planned (with separate prize pool paid in part by donations and the rewards collected by the @steemstem posts.

Behind the Scenes

SteemSTEM is managed behind the scenes by a group of steemians aiming to promote STEM content on steemit. There are no official roles, everybody can contribute in his or her own way and could join us (pay us a visit our rocket chat for discussing this).

The Origins

History is good. History can be found here.

To make a long story short, everything began some time ago with the academiaspotlight series aiming promote the work of new Steemians who were engineers and/or scientists in their real-life jobs. This initiative was however not sufficient to make all good science posts on Steemit noticed and advertised, in particular more than outright-plagiarized science content. With fresh blood being injected, the steemSTEM team has grown and is constituted today of about 10 (more or less) active Steemians.

This consists of the first community of science writers on Steemit.
