Actually a bunch of the steps on that guide are no longer needed and the post Steem Miner Setup in Ubuntu 15.10 / 16.04 is a good one for ubuntu users.

Windows

You can run a Virtual Machine with Ubuntu installed or directly in Windows with @bitcube's Steem Windows Wallet and Miner.

Mac OSX

You can also run a Virtual Machine with Ubuntu installed or as [@geoffrey] said in his post Steem mining a comprehensive guide using the Homebrew probably will work.
