SteemSTEM
SteemSTEM was formed for promoting and rewarding STEM (Science, Technology Engineering and Mathematics) content on Steem.[1]. The mid-2017 update of the project has been recently released[2].
The steemSTEM project is a community-supported initiative aiming to increase the quality and the visibility of all posts in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) category on Steemit. The main idea is that the STEM disciplines are core subjects essential to the long term growth and development of Steemit as an internet social media hub.
The project seeks to promote the quality content posted on Steemit, the assessment of the quality of the content being achieved by a team of curators with expertise in various STEM disciplines who donate their time for the betterment of Steemit and the community. The steemSTEM team members do not receive ANY STEEM as payment for their participation and dedication to the project.

Community Contact
The easiest way to contact the SteemSTEM team is to visit their channel on rocket.chat. It is also the best place for lively discussing about STEM topics and they even have a few experts about specific fields. Please pass by: https://steemit.chat/channel/steemSTEM .
Project Philosophy
As said above, the steemSTEM project aims, on the long term, to spread knowledge of STEM subjects and to increase the quality of the STEM posts through positive reinforcement. Our actions consist of re-steeming and upvoting good STEM posts. The STEEM power used for this task is collected either via a direct delegation to the @steemstem account and/or via the trailing of the account by a bunch of followers.
We also host and support competitions of various types to encourage people to give their all.
The SteemSTEM project is committed to distributing STEEM power!
Curation
The steemSTEM team members are actively curating posts tagged within the #science and #technology categories. Accurate, comprehensive and correctly referenced articles have been upvoted, and high quality posts were occasionally selected for re-steeming and a reward of 5 SP, 10 SP or 20 SP. The focus is primarily for newer authors in need of additional exposure.
The management team members have delegated a minimum of 10% of their personal STEEM Power to enable the @steemstem account to accrue STEEM rewards through curation. Moreover, many additional Steemians have generously agreed to trailing the account votes to get good STEM content on the platform better rewarded.
In addition, many of the voted posts are advertised on our discussion channel on Steemit.chat, so that upvoted posts can be found, read and commented in an easier way.
SteemSTEM Competitions
The steemSTEM project has been heavily involved in supporting contests designed to challenge the Steemit community, instill a greater appreciation for STEM content and increase the STEEM Power of the STEM community members (both content creators and commenters). We have supported contests (either through helping with exposure, providing funding or both) run by a variety of STEM content creators including:
- biologychallenge #1 by @jaki01.
- chemistrychallenge #3 by @jaki01.
- chemistrychallenge #4 by @jaki01.
- chemistrychallenge #5 by @jaki01.
- Get Ready! Mathematics × Programming Competition Round 3! by @kenchung.
- Mathematics × Programming Competition 4 by @kenchung.
- Logo design contest for the "Mathematics × Programming Competition"! by @kenchung.
- Introducing the all new MystiFACT-or-FICTION Challenge! by @mystifact.
- MystiFACT-or-FICTION challenge 1 - Can stress eventually KILL you? by @mystifact.
- MystiFACT-or-FICTION challenge 1 - RESULTS by @mystifact.
- Himal-Health contest - Health Awareness on Steemit by @himal.
- Suesa's Science Challenge by @suesa.
- Suesa's Science Challenge - Results by @suesa.
We have also been trying to support the new #sciencepic tag created by @mcw as a way for anyone to feel welcome contributing to STEM on Steemit, please see SciencePic -- Quest for all Steemians for science photos and pictures.
- Past SteemSTEM Team Contests
The steemSTEM management team has also been involved in the creation and running a variety of contests including two writing contests:
* [SteemSTEM Writing Competition - Sharing Knowledge on Steemit](https://steemit.com/steemstem/@steemstem/steemstem-writing-competition-sharing-knowledge-on-steemit) * [Results From The First SteemSTEM Writing Competition](https://steemit.com/steemstem/@steemstem/results-from-the-first-steemstem-writing-competition) * [SteemSTEM Writing Competition 2 - Sharing Knowledge on Steemit](https://steemit.com/steemstem/@steemstem/steemstem-writing-competition-2-sharing-knowledge-on-steemit) * [Results From The Second SteemSTEM Writing Competition](https://steemit.com/science/@steemstem/results-from-the-second-steemstem-writing-competition)
The purpose of these competitions was to provide the STEM community on Steemit a set of excellent examples of what well cited, posts look like, and to reward those posters for their efforts. We feel that these contests were a huge success and resulted in the generation of a nice set of high quality content.
One physics challenge has also been organized by **@lemouth**

Behind the Scenes
SteemSTEM is managed behind the scenes by a group of steemians aiming to promote STEM content on steemit. There are no official roles, everybody can contribute in his or her own way and could join us (pay us a visit our rocket chat for discussing this).
The Origins
History is good. History can be found here.[1]
To make a long story short, everything began some time ago with the academiaspotlight series aiming promote the work of new Steemians who were engineers and/or scientists in their real-life jobs. This initiative was however not sufficient to make all good science posts on Steemit noticed and advertised, in particular more than outright-plagiarized science content. With fresh blood being injected, the steemSTEM team has grown and is constituted today of about 10 (more or less) active Steemians.
This consists of the first community of science writers on Steemit.
